Today I learned about Reverse Engineering, its where you take an object that is already created and figure out the dimensions of it using a Dial Caliper and a Micrometer to sketch it yourself. A Dial Caliper is a handy and versatile measuring tool, It can measure I.D(inner dimension) , O.D( outer dimension), step and depth. I measured the c clamp using the caliper, there is a small wheel to rotate the jaw up and down. You can measure stuff from the inside and the outside. After I measured all the sides of the clamp I sketched it. Then I measured the hole on the side of the clamp with the caliper and sketched that also. A Micrometer generally provides precision than a caliper, but is limited to a smaller range of lengths. To move the spindle you rotate the thimble. You put an object between the anvil and the spindle and the rotate the thimble until it stops, then you have to read the measurement of the object on the sleeve of the micrometer.
